Shanti (Waheeda Rehman ) et Raj ( Sanjeev Kumar ) sont très amoureux , mais lorsque la mère de Raj le force à épouser la fille de son riche employeur afin qu'il s'associe dans l'entreprise familiale, il se sépare de Shanti qui porte son enfant. Shanti quitte alors la ville et donne naissance à un garçon nommé Vijay ( Amitabh Bachchan) en faisant de lui un homme digne et fort. Quand elle meurt, Vijay se met à la recherche de son père afin de venger sa mère en mettant à exécution un plan visant à interrompre la vie aisée et complaisante de Raj ...

Shanti (Waheeda Rehman) and Raj (Sanjeev Kumar) are very much in love, but when Raj's mother forces him to marry the daughter of his wealthy employer so that he becomes a partner in the family business, he separates from Shanti who carries her child. Shanti then leaves the city and gives birth to a boy named Vijay ( Amitabh Bachchan ) making him a dignified and strong man. When she dies, Vijay sets out to find his father in order to avenge his mother by carrying out a plan to interrupt Raj's easy and complacent life...
